The very funny Dave Foley is in town, and playing 4 shows at Wiseguys West Valley. The star of News Radio and Kids in the Hall has shows Friday and Saturday night, 7 & 9pm. Tickets are $20.
Want to play games? SaltCON is an all-day board game convention, where anyone can join in a variety of board games. There will be tournaments, a game library, game swap for you to bring a game you would like to retire from your collection, and much more. The event runs from Friday, February 17, 10am – Saturday at midnight. Admission runs from $30+. The convention is at the Royal Garden Inn Convention Center at 154 west 600 south. A few shows you won’t want to miss. Saturday, Feb 17 at Kilby Court is Laura Gibson, Breathe Owl Breathe, and Paul Jacobsen and The Madison Arm. It’s a great lineup of eclectic music, and only $10. Show starts at 7pm.
You will not likely see anything like Leslie Hall and the Ly’s this year, so don’t miss out on her show this Tuesday at Urban Lounge. The midwest diva and gem-sweater enthusiast will be playing with Pennyhawk, and Ramona & The Swimsuits. Tickets are $12, show starts at 9pm.
Big news for pub quiz enthusiasts, Piper Down is now hosting Geeks Who Drink twice a week (<-Facebook invite, spread the word). Starting this Sunday, the popular quiz-show spectacular will be there every Sunday and Wednesday to give you even more opportunity to play. Different quiz every night, and it’s always a good time.
Next weekend, support the Utah Arts Festival and get your Mardis Gras partying right here in SL,UT. It’s the 2012 Masquerade Party! A Texas Hold-Em tournament is held from noon-5pm, with the final table at 7pm. The masquerade party begins at 6pm. Tickets start at $50 and include food, non-alcoholic beverages, one complimentary beer or wine, and “just for fun” casino games. (Yes, there is a bar.) The 5th annual SLC Urban Iditarod is just two weeks away. It’s just like the real Iditarod, except fewer dogs, less snow, and a lot more beer. In the urban version, teams of ‘dogs’ lead by a musher will pull their sleds (shopping carts) through some of Salt Lake City’s most scenic areas. These teams of barking humans must negotiate through the unrelenting and unforgiving dangers of SLC’s urban frontier. As an incentive to run, dogs and mushers alike will have several ‘rest stops’ to replenish lost fluids and discuss tales of mayhem. The course is normally over four miles in length, so dogs and mushers alike need to be ready and able to run their tails off.
The start of the Salt Lake City Urban Iditarod will be at the corner of 400S and W Temple in the NW corner of the parking lot. Each of the watering holes will be announced @PubCrawlSLC on Twitter when it is time to move along to the next watering hole.
