It’s the big holiday this weekend, which means most people will be spending time sipping flasks while listening to insane kids ripping open presents. Others will be enjoying Christmas with friends, celebrating Hanukkah, or just enjoying another weekend. In case you want a bit more than sitting around Grandma’s house, here are some things to do in a quick edition of Around the SL,UT.

Friday night, head to Kilby Court for The Folka Dots Christmas Show. The local favorites will be playing with The Trappers and Holy Water Buffalo. Show is 7pm, tickets are only $5.

It’s true, a lot of places are closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. But you don’t need to go hungry or sacrifice your taste buds (and your digestive system). Here’s a great article by my friend Kathy Stephenson with good restaurants open this weekend.

Christmas night, Urban Lounge hosts Party Babes Christmas Night Party with a white elephant mix CD Exchange at Urban Lounge. Bring a mix of your favorites to exchange. Doors open 9pm, admission is $5.

Piper Down is open Christmas, and karaoke will be happening. Come to Utah’s favorite karaoke night on this special day.

Next Wednesday, Trans-Siberian Orchestra plays a pair of shows. 3pm and 8pm at EnergySolutions Arena, tickets range from $29-58.

Like video games? More importantly, the music from video games? Video Games Live: Bonus Round! is a show with the Utah Symphony and other performers. The show is Friday, December 30 at Abravanel Hall 8pm. Tickets are $28-$85, and are selling out fast.

Enjoy the holidays, and if you have any recommendations for your fellow people of the SL,UT for New Years Eve, pass them along!

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and a Joyous Festivus to all!
